One of the most enjoyable outings each year for the Destin Garden Club is the bus trip to Mobile, Ala, which is celebrating the 20th year of The Festival of Flowers, staged under 300,000 square feet of pristine white tents on eight acres on the Campus of Providence Hospital.
The Destin Garden Club is chartering a comfortable tour bus for the first day of the Festival, March 21.
The bus will be at The Track in Destin by 8 a.m., and will have an additional pick-up on Okaloosa Island before heading toward Mobile.
“As you disembark from the bus in Mobile, you are greeted by a bevy of southern belles dressed in traditional and colorful southern garb,” said club member Donna McPeak. “Be sure to bring your camera!”
The premier flower and garden event of the greater Gulf Coast, the Festival of Flowers is a true horticultural extravaganza offering splendid floral exhibits, life-size landscaped garden vignettes, informative seminars, dramatic tablescape designs, art photography, shopping in the Gardener's Galleria, plus dining in the Garden Café. Marking the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the festival will engage visitors with creative interpretations of various icons of Mobile landscape and architectural features throughout the show.
The festival takes place during what is perhaps Mobile's prettiest month, with trees leafing out and bloomers displaying their splendor.
Proceeds from the 2013 Festival will fund advanced technology for Providence Hospital's Radiology Department.
The Destin Garden Club’s bus return time will be approximately 5:30-6 p.m. The ticket costs $45 and covers the bus ride and entry fee to the festival. Food from local vendors is available on site.
"For the first time, we are inviting non-club members to join us," McPeak said.
