The competition was tight with more than 20 chili recipes from participating Parrot Heads from along the Emerald Coast at the Eighth Annual Parrot Head Chili Cook Off March 16.  Celebrity judges chose their top three chili recipes, from chocolate-infused to sirloin-loaded varieties.  The competition was hosted on the Destin Harbor to benefit American Cancer Society.

The Peopleís Choice was awarded to Ray Yantch. First place winner was Candy Pate; second, Rick Henson; and third, Kathy Mauck. Professional category winners were first place, Harry Tís; second, Crab Island Cantina; and third, Emerald Grandeís Grande Vista Bar and Grille.

The event proved to be very successful, raising approximately $8,000 to benefit American Cancer Society Relay For Life, more than any year prior.

"It takes my breath away that we were able to raise this huge amount," said Jean Grieve, Destin Relay for Life event chair. "As a Parrot Head and a cancer survivor, it warms my heart that this event has continued to grow year after year for such a wonderful cause. We are proud to have the Parrot Heads as a team and all of the dollars raised will be put towards funding research for a cure for this disease."

Winners in the Lick'em, Shoot'em, Bite'em and Eat'em Contest sponsored by Crab Island Cantina were first place, Manuel Garcia; second, Larry Phelps; and third, Gary Vonschondorf. Most Spirited was awarded to Brittany Brizal.

The DizzyJuke Band and The Sauce Boss had more than 1,000 fans rocking late into the  afternoon with their hot blues and soulful tunes.
