Sarah Lee Oldham Whalen

Sarah Lee Oldham Whalen passed away quietly at her home in Destin, Fla., March 10, 2013, after battling ovarian cancer for more than 4 1/2 years. She was born on July 28, 1937 in Como, Miss.

Those who live to cherish her memory are her two sons, Terry and Tracy; daughter-in-law, Darlene; grandchildren, Amy and Matthew; great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and colleagues who will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her brother, James Robert; mother, Margaret Lee Chambers; and father, Robert Elias Oldham.

Sarah had an extraordinary career over her lifetime which was as colorful as the woman we all loved. Many may not know that she sold Penny Rich bras, worked as an advertising executive for a local TV station and began her career in politics working at the governors' mansion in Louisiana. The career we most remember her for was as an accomplished lobbyist for more than 20 years. She was one of the few woman lobbyists in Louisiana.

She was an avid tennis player, golfer and after moving to Florida, ballroom dancing became her passion.

At Sarah's request, the family will host a Celebration of Life April 6 in Destin.  In order to appropriately host the occasion, the family is requesting RSVP'S to Sarahwhalencelebration@yahoo.com.  Please let us know if you will attend and the number and name of those in your party by March 29. We look forward to hearing stories about how Sarah touched your life!

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Cancer Society or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
