Twenty-five volunteers met at the Destin Family YMCA March 16 for a spring cleaning event. As the weather begins to warm up, the Destin Family YMCA prepares to open the family pool area which includes a children’s splash pad, a water slide and a lazy river. In preparation for the hundreds of visitors that are expected to use the facility this summer, the staff of the YMCA invited volunteers to help spruce the place up.

Volunteers mowed grass, pressure washed the pool deck, pulled weeds and even cleaned up the locker rooms.

“We want the Destin Family YMCA to be in tip top shape for the families who will visit us this summer,” said Michael Rojas, president/CEO of the YMCA of Florida's Emerald Coast. “There was so much to do that the task looked very daunting. But many hands make light work. We cannot thank all the volunteers enough for the hours they put in to help us get ready.”

Currently, the heated lap pool at the Destin Family YMCA is open year round. The family pool, however, is closed during the colder months. Beginning April 27, the family pool and splash pad will reopen for the season from 3-8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday,  Wednesday and Friday; and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Beginning June 8 the facility will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The Destin Family YMCA is part of the “AWAY” program (Always Welcome At YMCA). The YMCA also has daily and seasonal passes for non Y members who would like to use the facility. For more information, call 837-8440.
