Call it the family friendly face of Florida spring break.

Although the Destin area has long been a popular vacation destination for students, it's also one of the most family friendly beaches. So friendly, in fact, the Travel Channel named Destin the Best Family Beach for 2013.

Greg Bayouth of Oklahoma said that Destin has so much to offer families and children of all ages. That's why they chose Destin for spring break. However, according to the youngest of the Bayouths — 4-year-old Alyna and 3-year-old Eason — the water at the beach might be dangerous. But they are still having fun.

"This is the best, really," said Greg Bayouth. "We've been to Pensacola before and it's nice, but this is better. We'll definitely come back.

Vacationing with their six children and some of their friends, the Bayouths had a miniature army in tow during their first trip to Destin. The Bayouths collection of teenagers told The Log they had bumped into quite a few people from back home they know. Even mom Nikki ran into a co-worker while on the beach.

"I saw that her shirt said Trojans and I was shocked," said Nikki. "What a small world!"

Tennessee residents, the McCulloughs are another family taking advantage of the fun-in-the-sun.

Ten-year-old Ryland McCullough stepped out of his familiar Nashville cowboy boots and into a wetsuit for his surf lesson with Dylan Sims of Ride On Surf School.

With his family cheering him on, Ryland quickly caught a wave at the beach behind Pompano Joe's last weekend.

"He's a natural," said proud mom Jake.

"He's only surfed one other time in his life," added dad Ed.

Peyton and Reece, the 14-month-old twins were also cheering on their big brother as he rode waves in.

WHO’S HERE?

Tulane University, University of New Orleans, Xavier University of Louisiana and University of Tennessee-Knoxville are some of the schools on break the week of March 23. Okaloosa and Walton County schools are also on break.
