Under sunny skies, it was still a bit dark with a 1-foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier on Monday. Sheepshead, Spanish mackerel and whiting were being pulled in Monday at the pier. Other suspects showing up the last couple of days include pompano and flounder.
Cobia started hitting the docks this past weekend with two or three tilting the scales in the 70-plus range. On April 1 (April Fools Day), there was a lot of cobia talk on the water, but who knows for sure. Other fish showing up when the sun comes out are redfish and speckled on the grassflats. Try luring them in with a mirror lure. Sheepshead are still biting well on shrimp around the bridge. On the warmer days, the pompano are showing up in the surf around Henderson Park — try fishing on an incoming tide in the deeper holes.
Boats out bottom fishing are pulling in nice catches of mingo, white snapper, triggerfish as well as a few amberjack and amberine. Shallow water grouper are back on the catch list.
Still no reports of anything offshore.
