James Conley Stone, Sr.
James Conley Stone, Sr., of Destin passed away April 1, 2013, at his home. Conley was born April 10, 1931, in Bassett, Va., to George Stone and Cora Turner Stone Price. He was a member of Village Baptist Church in Destin.
Conley enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from high school. After serving in the military for four years, he went on to earn a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering at Virginia Tech. He began his career in 1959 with Exxon and retired after 27 years. He continued his career as CEO of Plantation Pipeline in Atlanta and retired to Destin in 2006.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy Warren Stone; son, James C. Stone, Jr. of Destin; daughters, Karen S. Manuel of Baton Rouge, La., and Kathryn J. Stone of Destin; granddaughters, Leigh K. Manuel and Abby E. Manuel of Baton Rouge; and brothers, Vernon Stone of Bassett and Irvin Stone jofr McCall, S.C.
Pop Pop will be dearly missed. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and was a friend to all. He loved his family, his country and his Lord.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 4 at Village Baptist Church in Destin. Thank you to all the wonderful friends at the church for your care and kindness.
