With an east wind and mild temps, the water is dirty with a 1-2 foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier Tuesday morning. An angler reported catching a limit of Spanish mackerel (10-per person) before noon Tuesday. Other fish being caught on a regular basis include sheepshead, pompano and an occasional cobia.
The Spanish are here and can be found right off the beach. Heard reports of anglers having good luck trolling spoons and straw rigs. The cobia run is in full swing with several being weighed daily at the Cobia World Championships. On Monday, Annette Taunton weighed in a 73.2-pound for second place in the Womens Championships at Harbor Docks. Redfish and speckled are showing up on the grassflats. Try luring them in with a mirror lure. Sheepshead are still biting well on shrimp around the bridge.
Boats out bottom fishing are pulling in nice catches of mingo, white snapper, triggerfish, scamp as well as a few amberjack and amberine. Shallow water grouper are back on the catch list. Still no reports of anything offshore.
