From a birth defect to an unwanted divorce and then a bomb explosion, Lisa Osteen Comes has experienced the tragedies of life and the miracles.
Comes, sponsored by the Women of Destiny, will speak at 7 p.m. April 26 at Destiny Worship Center.
"I plan to share my story and some powerful truths that I have learned over the years," Comes told The Log.
No stranger to the adversities of life, Comes was injured at birth and developed a condition similar to cerebral palsy. Doctors told her parents she might not walk and could face an early death but God had other plans for this young girl. As her father and her mother prayed for her, God miraculously healed her before her first birthday.
Comes has gone through several life-changing moments, and one was her unwanted divorce as a young adult.
"I was full of shame and felt disqualified from ministry," she said. "However, in the healing process, God not only restored my life He called me to preach. So in the worst trial of my
life, God didn't change His mind about me; instead, He used it to catapult me into my destiny."
Several years later, in 1990, God once again spared Comes' life, and she experienced another miracle.
While opening mail, she unknowingly unwrapped a package meant for her father that contained a bomb. The force was so great her office was riddled with nails and shrapnel, but she was miraculously protected and had minor injuries.
Comes has been married to Kevin for 22 years and they have twin girls who are 14 years old and an 11-year-old son.
Through all these miracles, Comes has learned "that we always have hope in Jesus and what we cannot do in the natural, God can do for us."
A graduate of Oral Roberts University, Comes dedicated her life to full time ministry in 1983 and began to work for her father, the late pastor John Osteen, at Lakewood Church in Houston. She also traveled the world teaching God's Word, writing books and is still at Lakewood with her brother, pastor Joel Osteen.
"I was director of ministries for years, but in 1999, I became an associate pastor and speak in the Wednesday evening services," she said.
Through all of her challenges and experiences, Comes has become known as a respected ministry leader and Bible teacher. Her passion for God's Word and love for people radiate in her practical and insightful messages.
"I speak a lot on overcoming adversity and fulfilling your God-given assignments."
For women, Comes has a special message.
"Dont ever give up because God has so much more for you and to do in you and through you. You have greatness inside of you!"
