The second of two victims of this morning’s fatal traffic accident in Destin has been identified as 42-year old James Bennett of St. Petersburg Florida.



AFTERNOON UPDATE:



One of the two victims of this morning’s fatal traffic accident in Destin has been identified as Joseph Richard Tyrell III of Seminole Trail in Crestview (DOB 03-01-1990).



Investigators say Tyrell was driving a white Mazda, which collided with a Chevy Blazer being driven by a Pinellas County resident. That driver was also killed in the crash. His name is not yet available.



ORIGINAL STORY:



An early morning wreck at the intersection of Danny Wuerffel Way and U.S. Hwy. 98 left two dead Tuesday.



"It was bad, bad, bad," Destin Fire Control District Battalion Chief Bronson Coleman told The Log. "There was really bad front end impact on both vehicles."



The wreck occurred near the 3 a.m. hour and involved a white Mazda and a Chevy Blazer. As of Tuesday morning there were no witnesses to the wreck, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, and the incident was under investigation.



Coleman told The Log that the driver of the Mazda was deceased when emergency responders arrived on scene. The driver of the Blazer, which had rolled over, was extricated from the vehicle with faint signs of life, but was pronounced dead shortly after being hooked up to a monitor, Coleman said.



The identities of the deceased were not released as of press time Tuesday, pending notification of next of kin. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, one victim is an Okaloosa County resident, while the other is from South Florida.



As of Tuesday morning, all lanes of traffic were reopened after the accident caused delays and road closures that lasted till about 8 a.m. while emergency responders and authorities cleared the scene.
