Dr. Bob Ratcliff elected president of the Destin Chamber of Commerce.



The outdoor magazine Sports Afield named Destin's A & J Custom Rods as an official State Fishing Awards Station.



Approximately 1,750 oilmen and their guests were in Destin for the Gulf States Oil Invitational Tournament.



 



30 years ago 1983



Thousands of tiny frogs hatched in receding flood waters along Airport Road, infesting Quail Circle residents' swimming pools, garages, porches and lawns with both live and dead frogs.



Overall winner of the Destin Yacht Club Marina Cobia Tournament was the private boat Garlynn, skippered by Capt. Donnie Brown.



Okaloosa County Planning and Zoning Board approved plans for the Downtown Destin Centre, an office and commercial project on the west side of Main Street, and the Water Towers South condominium and Commerce Row on Main Street.



 



25 years ago 1988



Destin prepared to hold its first MayFest, a three-day festival of food, entertainment, arts and crafts.



 



20 years ago 1993



After a motorist ran into a power pole on the corner of U.S. 98 and Stahlman Avenue, the Mother's Day power outage left many Destin restaurants without power or patrons.



Destin Fire Board approved draft of an agreement between the Destin Fire Control District and the North Bay Fire Control District in Niceville as to which agency would respond to what section of the new Mid-Bay Bridge if needed.
