The Destin Marlins put together nine hits to sink the Pryor Pirates 18-0 in middle school girl’s softball action Wednesday afternoon in Fort Walton Beach.

"Our infield was tough," said Destin Coach Warren Whitaker of his Destin defender that didn't give up a run.

"Jordan Malave had a phenomenal stop at second base," he added.

Being on the road, the Lady Marlins got first shot at bat and brought in 10 runs on five hits. Nicki Cobble reached on an error and then scored on a triple to right center by Malave, who finished up with three hits on the day. Sam Houston reached on an error and Gabby Nix walked. Faith Ford followed with a single up the middle. Houston scored on a throwing error, and Madison Henry belted a single to right center for an RBI. Megan Chavez smacked a double up the middle for two RBIs. Caroline Porter walked and Mollie Seeling reached on a fielder's choice. Up to bat, for her second time in the inning, Cobble walked to load the bases. Malave singled to right center for an RBI, and Houston drew a walk to force in a run.

In the bottom of the first, Destin sat the Pirates down quickly. After the first batter reached on an error, she was later thrown out trying to take second by the right fielder Houston. Ford struck out a Pirate and the third out was a groundout to second baseman Malave, who made the stop on her knees and then tossed it over to Seeling at first to finish the inning 10-0.

In the top of the second, Destin put four more runs on the board on two hits. Connecting for hits were Malave and Nix.

Destin made some changes in the field in the bottom half with Henry going in to pitch. She struck out two and forced a pop up to second baseman Malave.

The Marlins scored four last runs on two hits in the third inning. Nix belted a double and Gracie Ann Clark a single.

Destin again shut the Pirates down on two groundouts and a strikeout.

The Marlins finished the season 7-1 and second in the county behind Ruckel Middle School, who handed them their only loss of the season.
