School a blessing for Filipino children

Widespread poverty greatly impacts the education of most children in the Philippines. Often parents can't afford the uniforms and fees to send their children to school and, in most cases, small children must walk a very long distance to school. Such was the case for children living in the village of Galilee.

Mission Love Seeds, based in Destin, began working in the village of Galilee in 2008. At that time, it was the fifth village for this faith-based organization.

In 2011, Generous Heart Ministry teamed with Mission Love Seeds to build a school for the village of Galilee so the children could attend school in their own village and no longer have to walk such a long distance to school each day.

With the very generous heart of Jane Carron and Generous Heart Ministry of Destin, a school in Galilee became a reality and children can now attend school right in their village.

Generous Heart not only provided all funds needed to build the school but also provided funds to build the colorful desks, chairs, book shelves, cute and fun murals on both the inside and outside school walls, and furnish uniforms, flip flops and school supplies. Nothing was forgotten! Generous Heart Ministry even paid the teacherís salary and provided for a fun filled graduation party with delicious food, cake and balloons.

Again, in 2013, the kids were not forgotten by Jane Carron. During a recent mission trip by Mission Love Seeds, Carron sent an encouraging letter that was read to the students during graduation day and each child received a heart shaped lollipop.

The school serves as a shelter from storms and typhoons and doubles as a Sunday school class and vacation Bible school, and a place to hold feedings and, most recently, a medical/dental clinic.

A dental clinic was set up inside the school and a pharmacy was set up on the outside under the schoolís covered front porch. More than 75 children had teeth pulled during the one day dental clinic and each child received toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste.

What a blessing the school is to the village of Galilee! Children from the village and surrounding villages benefit from the school building each and every day.
