Destin author Dr. Steven Abernathy has written his way onto his first best-seller list. In Amazon rankings released on April 23, his latest novel, "Unspoken Valor," broke into the top 100 list in both books and Kindle e-books, listed as No. 93 and No. 76 respectively in the genres of literature, fiction, and drama.

“It’s not the New York Times best-seller list, but it is certainly a good start for a book that has only been out since January,” says the author.

"Unspoken Valor" is a story of World War II heroism inspired by Dr. Abernathy’s boyhood remembrances of his father’s uniform, which had several medals and ribbons on the jacket.

“Dad would never speak of his part in the war, or where those brightly colored ribbons came from, so I basically took the little factual history I knew and built a fictional story around it. It is a tribute to my father, but I hope it also reflects a reverence and pride for all the other soldiers who have fought and died in defense of freedom, often with no recognition of their meritorious service.”

Fan response to the story has been great, and the author, who also occasionally writes columns for The Log, has received many telephone calls and emails from people who have enjoyed the novel.

The author's website, http://www.stevenabernathy.net, includes a short post titled “Hero in the House” that explains his motivation for writing the book. The website also provides the first chapter of each of his four novels and links to Amazon.com for those who wish to purchase. At this time, "Unspoken Valor" is available on all e-book formats.

For those who do not own a Kindle or other e-reader, a free app is available at Amazon.com that will enable downloading e-books directly to a PC, Mac, or smartphone.
