Ladies help others at Safe Harbor
Ladies Bible study will be held the second and fourth Fridays at 10 a.m. This year the subject is Isaiah by Howard Preskett. Dates are subject to change so give the office a call at 850-837-2268 to confirm date. We would love to have visitors. Following study the ladies go out to lunch.
During the summer and into fall the ladies joined with other organizations and churches assisting visitors to Destin in finding lodging and providing transportation, etc. Welcome bags were prepared for the visitors and also for Campus Crusade college students, who were in the area to share the Word and to work.
The ladies group has a special desire to see that students at a local elementary school have the necessary items, including shoes, clothes, equipment, etc., to insure that the child is one of the group. Each child is a gift from God. “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but the one who sent me.” Mark 9: 37
Susan Calderazzo, music director, has recorded hymns that she wrote. She has dedicated all of the proceeds to Cavaillon, an orphanage in Haiti. If you would like to have one of these discs and help support such a needy charity, please call the church office.
Meet ‘Betty Boop’
Betty Horton, who prefers to be called “Betty Boop,” is in her 80s and one of God's angels on earth at First Baptist Church Destin.
When churches along Beach walked the street at Easter, Betty was out front following the cross.
Each week she personally prepares and mails cards (hundreds each month) to those who are ill, absent, broken hearted, or celebrating a birthday, and she never forgets a special occasion.
On days when the church has any event, Betty is first to arrive and last to leave.
“An absolutely amazing lady of means who loves to laugh, always has a mischievous glint in her eye, but a keen sense for the obvious, will tell you she is a very wise woman who loves the Lord and shows it every day in every way,” P.E. McIntosh told The Log. “Outside Destin Christian Academy (now Rocky Bayou Christian School in Destin on the First Baptist campus) stands a flag pole and flower garden in honor of her late husband. Most mornings she can be found tending to the flowers kept fresh every day for 12 years.”
