Chong Bairos, owner of the ATA Martial Arts Academy in Destin and Fort Walton Beach, has reached another lifelong goal — becoming a World Champion.
ATA (American Taekwondo Association) athletes compete in regional and national tournaments throughout the year for the chance to win their way into a spot among the top 10 competitors in their division. The top 10 point earners meet each summer to duke it out for the coveted title of World Champion. This event, which is held at the ATA National Headquarters, in Little Rock, Ark., brings an estimated 20,000 people from around the world together for a week of Taekwondo competition and training.
Bairos has placed at regional and national tournaments in the past, but has finally secured the title of World Champion.
"World Champion is a goal that grew stronger during several years of achieving second place," Bairos said. "This has given me even more motivation to help students set and reach their goals."
Both the Destin and Fort Walton Beach ATA locations offer classes for children four and up through adults. ATA classes instruct students in forms, weapons, sparring, and board-breaking. For more information visit: www.atatheway.com.
