Christmas is coming, and it’s the busiest time of year for Destin-based Mission Love Seeds. Preparations are now underway to feed and clothe the children and provide Christmas presents for each child in the nine villages in the Philippines.
Barbie’s on a Mission is now officially ready to receive your donations of new and pre-loved toys — Barbie dolls, trucks, cars, Beanie babies.
Lisa Snuggs, a Mission volunteer who began Barbie’s on a Mission last year, reports that the first donation this year is from Realtor Amy Walsh.
“I have followed Lisa Snuggs’ work with Mission Love Seeds and heard about the Barbie’s on a Mission on Facebook while reading about one of her trips,” Walsh said. “Recently, I asked my daughter Sydney, 11, to clean out her room and we would donate toys to children who might not have any. That's when I remembered Barbie’s on a Mission. Sydney was happy to know her Barbies will be loved by children who would not otherwise receive one. I'm hoping it teaches Sydney that no donation is too small.”
Children like to help, especially when they can see through pictures exactly where their help is going. They can see the smiles and love on the faces of these children who have so little and appreciate everything that is given to them.
Another new helper for Barbie’s on a Mission is Lauren Flattery, a sixth grader at Destin Middle School. More children are needed to participate; just contact MLS at the number and email below to see how you can help.
Mission Love Seeds also needs funds to help pay for shipping the toys.
“It costs $80 to ship one extra large box that holds more than 300 pounds,” Barbi Carroll, founder and president of Mission Love Seeds told The Log. “Last year, Mission shipped more than 30 extra large boxes of toys. The toys need to be shipped by the middle of October to insure they arrive in the Philippines before Christmas.”

Barbie’s and other toys may be dropped off at Keller Williams Realty offices in Destin, Niceville, 30A, Navarre and Gulf Breeze.
