United for a Good Cause Inc., a local non-profit organization promoting the spirit of service, invites area high school students in public, private, parochial and/or home-schooled, regardless of race, ethnicity, or creed, to attend.  This conference will be a great learning tool, resume builder and opportunity to connect with successful leaders of all ages from a variety of backgrounds.

The conference is sponsored by the Costa Leadership Institute at Northwest Florida State College and is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the institute in Niceville.

A maximum of 120 slots are available. Registration form and tuition payment must be received by Sept. 23.  After that date, applications will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

The inspirational keynote speakers will be Army Staff Sgt. Aaron Hale and his wife Kelly.  Sergeant Hale, an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician, served one tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan.  On Dec. 8, 2011, he was severely wounded by an Improvised Explosive Device in Afghanistan that resulted in the loss of his eyesight and several other traumatic injuries.  Kelly Hale, a graduate of the University of Florida, is the lead Mission Spokesperson, fundraiser and community outreach voice for the Building Homes for Heroes Organization in NW Florida.  This young couple has inspired young people and adults throughout the nation.

About his participation, Hale stated:  “I am thrilled to be participating in this conference. So much of what I have learned about leadership I learned from the example of others.  It is a true honor to have the chance to impart some of those lessons learned to today’s young adults.”

Top local and national speakers, authors and trainers will be on hand sharing their messages to the youth of our community during break-out sessions. Speakers include Leadership Council Leader Barbara Britt, speaker Nancy Gaskins, success coach Desley Parker, Another Broken Egg Founder Ron Green, Rep. Matt Gaetz, Destin author Gary Westfal and others.

A minimal tuition of $10 and includes:  Participation at the Keynote Speakers’ address, three separate breakout sessions, an open panel with young professionals and college leaders, a round table wrap up session, lunch, and a take home conference binder with resource material.  Door prizes will be given away. Lunch break entertainment by Reid Soria of “Autism Sings” and a special appearance by Destin’s Amanda Sachse.

Scholarships are available for students that may not be able to afford the tuition.  Please call us for details.  Sponsorships and door prize donations from businesses and individuals are welcomed.  The donations will help defray costs, as well as to provide attendance scholarships to students that cannot afford it.
