To honor veterans of all wars, a sidewalk parade sponsored by the American Legion will head down Main Street beginning at 10 a.m. in Destin. Lineup will be in the parking lot of Old Time Pottery at 9:30 a.m. a bagpiper will be a part of the procession. After the parade a ringing of the bell ceremony will be at the American Legion at 311 Main St. A cookout will follow.

The City of DeFuniak Springs will host its annual Veterans Day program starting at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery at 222 North Park St. Guest speaker will be Ron Hargrove, founder of the World War II Military Vehicle Association in Florala, Ala. The ceremony will include posting of the flags and colors by the Walton High School Junior ROTCH, a 21-gun salute and taps, a wreath presentation, recognition of veterans from each conflict and a helicopter flyover by friends of Army Aviation. A Huey helicopter will be offering rides from the DeFuniak Springs Airport for a fee.



A ceremony will be at 2 p.m. at the war memorial in front of City Hall on State Road 20 Freeport. Ret. Navy Capt. Kathryn "Bonnie" Bonner will be the guest speaker.



Mary Esther's annual Veterans Day parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Santa Rosa Mall. The parade will commnce down Page Bacon Road, MAry Esther Boulevard and finish back where it started. Goodies will be tossed in the mall side of the procession. This years' theme is "Respect, Honor and Patriotism."



In Fort Walton Beach, this year’s Veterans Day ceremony at Beal Memorial Cemetery will reach beyond American borders to honor veterans from across the Atlantic Ocean. The ceremony will be attended by members of the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force and Royal Marines who are stationed at Eglin Air Force Base with the F-35 program. Local musician Reid Soria will perform the national anthem and “God Save the Queen” in honor of the international guests. The ceremony, hosted by the Emerald Coast chapter of the Association of the United States Army and the Veterans Tribute Tower Committee, will begin at 11 a.m. at the cemetery at 316 Beal Parkway.



Free Meals: Some area restaurants are offering free meals to veterans and active-duty service members including Tijuana Flats in Fort Walton Beach, Golden Corral locations in Mary Esther and Destin, Logan’s Roahdhouse in Mary Esther and Applebee’s locations in Miramar Beach and Crestview.
