Charities and organizations are beginning to accept donations for the holidays. Be a Santa’s Helper and give to those in need.
Fill the Trucks
Cumulus Radio Stations will broadcast live from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep on Mary Esther Cutoff to “Fill The Trucks” with toys, food and pet food or supplies.
The Salvation Army has 860 children ages 9-12 in Okaloosa County and is in need of toys, games and puzzles. Also, they hope to include one book for each child. Also, bring non-perishable food items for their food pantry. Donations of pet food and supplies are also being accepted for the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society.
Donations may be made during regular business hours at any Lee Automotive location: Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep on Mary Esther Cutoff in Fort Walton Beach; Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep on Ferdon Boulevard in Crestview; Lee Automotive on John Sims Parkway in Niceville; Lee Volkswagen Subaru on Hollywood Boulevard in Fort Walton Beach; Lee Kia on Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton Beach; or at Cumulus Broadcasting on Hollywood Boulevard in Fort Walton Beach.
Help a child and visit the “Families First Angel Tree” at Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th at Silver Sands Premium Outlets. A description of each child and gift suggestions will be available. Wrapped gifts must be returned to the Information Center, between Michael Kors and DKNY, no later than Dec. 17. Call 654-9771.
Shelter House donations for holiday meals
Shelter House is currently accepting donations for its annual holiday food drive. They accept non-perishable food items at any time. Due to storage capacity, perishable items such as hams, turkeys, bread and fresh fruits and vegetables will only be accepted Dec. 18 for Christmas meals. All donations should be delivered to 102 Buck Drive in Fort Walton Beach between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Suggested donations include turkeys, hams, mashed potato mix, stuffing mix, gravy, soups for casseroles, cranberry sauce, crispy fried onions, fresh fruits and vegetables, pie filling, pie crusts, condensed milk and laundry baskets. Gift cards are always welcome. Call 850-243-1201.
Emerald Coast Christmas Miracle
United for a Good Cause Inc. will host its Second Annual Emerald Coast Christmas Miracle Children’s Fiesta from 2-7 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Christian Life Center of First Baptist Church, 21 First Street SE in Fort Walton Beach.
The event will be a fun-filled “Latin-Flavored” party open to needy children/families regardless of race, ethnicity or creed. Santa will be there with new toys, food, games, magicians, dance contests for bikes and more. From 2-3 p.m. only families with special needs children will be allowed.

Opportunity Inc., the Okaloosa Walton Homeless Continuum of Care, is teaming up with Boshamps Seafood and Oyster House in Destin to collect canned and non-perishable food items to distribute to families in need in our community. Drop off locations include Boshamps, Apex Communications, Vintage Title and Escrow in Destin, the Sleep Center and Rick’s Crab Trap in Fort Walton Beach. Items may also be brought to Opportunity Place, 305 Lovejoy Road in Fort Walton Beach.
