The Destin Marlins hung with the Davidson Panthers the first half, but then fell short in the second suffering a 31-10 loss in girls middle school basketball action Monday evening in Crestview.



Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter. Davidson scored first with two baskets and then Destin finally got on the board on a takeaway by Auriane Rawls for the score and a 4-2 game at the buzzer.



In the second quarter, Destin took their first lead of the game with Mckenzie Stinson hitting a 3-pointer. Brooke Manis followed up with an inside shot for a 7-4 game. In the last two minutes of the quarter, the Panthers evened the score at 7-7.



At the start of the third quarter, Destin stepped into the lead for the last time on a basket from Manis. Minutes later, the Panthers cashed in on a couple of steals for quick baskets and a 12-9 advantage. The Marlins scored one last time on a free throw from Rawls at the 3-minute mark in the third.



The Marlins were outscored 24-3 in the second half.



Up next for the Lady Marlins is a 5 p.m. game Thursday at home against the Shoal River Mustangs of Crestview.
