Zodie DeMoville Johnston

Zodie DeMoville Johnston, 84, of Destin, Fla., passed away on Nov. 30, 2013, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Zodie was born in Boligee, Ala., and grew up in Perry, Fla. She was lovingly reared by her parents, Lillian and Ralph Pinkerton.



She was a true southern lady, with a love for life. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She brought a lot of joy to those around her with her quick wit and funny stories. She and her husband, Sage, enjoyed traveling to many countries in Europe where they often stayed for several months. They took many cruises to faraway places.



She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and was always an avid supporter of the Bama football team. For many years she was an active member and volunteer at the Destin United Methodist Church.



Zodie was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Pinkerton; her father, Fant DeMoville; stepfather, Ralph Pinkerton; husband, Sage M. Johnston; and son, Rick Lavender.



She is survived by her sister, Bettye (Bob) Haas; children, Tom (Sunee), Lisa (Chuck) Foley and Zodie (John) Fisher; grandchildren, Chris Hamilton, Meredith Belkofer, Ashley Hamilton, Chad Lavender, Nick Foley and Grant Foley; and nephew, Bill (Janie) Wyllie.



Funeral services were held Dec. 3 at Boligee, Alabama Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tom Sharon officiating. Burial followed in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery in Boligee with Rankin Belkofer, Chris Hamilton, Rick Johnson, Chad Lavender, Jeff Maples, Greg Pearson, Dan Smith and Johnathan Smithgall as pallbearers.



Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
