Hank Klein and Tony Mennillo will present “The Walton Guards and Captain William McPherson” at 5 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Indian Temple Mound Museum in Fort Walton Beach.

The story includes the Florida vote to secede from the Union; the forming of the Walton Guards at the beginning of the Civil War; the Walton Guards setting up camp on the Indian Temple Mound; why guarding The “Narrows” and East Pass was important; both Union and Confederate control of Pensacola; President Lincoln’s order to blockade southern harbors; what qualified 27-year old William McPherson to Command the Walton Guard; and his life after the Civil War.
