The Destin Middle School Marlin girl’s basketball team fell short Wednesday night at home, losing 41-24 to the Lewis Falcons of Valparaiso.

"I thought the girls played hard in this game," said Destin Coach Ben Kackley.

"Our biggest struggles came from the full court man-to-man pressure Lewis applied in the second and third quarters. Our in-bounders struggled to get the ball in and it gave Lewis quick baskets."

Nevertheless, Kackley added, "I feel like we have improved in many areas but this is an area we will stress in practice. Hopefully with additional work, we can start causing teams to back out of their press.  If we figure it out, we should be able to find success."

High scorers for Destin were Nathalia Flores and Brooke Manis each with six points.

Up next for the Marlins is a 6:30 p.m. game on Jan. 21 in Niceville against the Ruckel Rams.
