Under sunny skies, the water is clearing up with a 1-2 foot wave rolling in at the Okaloosa Island Pier Tuesday morning. Anglers are pulling flounder most every day, plus an occasional redfish, black drum, bonito and bluefish. Cigar minnows or finger mullets work well for bait on redfish and bluefish.
Flounder continue to be the hot ticket fish right now with folks catching them in good numbers around the near shore reefs and the pass using bull minnows, Gulps and Savage shrimp. Live shrimp is a hit too. The redfish have been showing up around Crab Island, Mid-Bay Bridge, the Destin bridge and the Coast Guard Station. Live shrimp and bull minnows work well. Sheepshead are showing up around the bridges and jetties. They like live shrimp and fiddler crabs.
Some big triggerfish along with big mingo were showing up on the docks last week. Good baits are cut squid or Boston mackerel. Amberjack, red and snowy grouper are also striking. Big pinfish are top baits for grouper and amberjack. Near the oil rigs offshore, yellowfin tuna as well as blackfin are biting.
