20 years ago — 1994



The Destin Log celebrated its 20th anniversary.



A Destin resident’s request to build two docks on his property led to a shouting match as other residents said the new docks would decrease the navigability of the channel.



Miracle Strip Aviation, operator of the Destin Airport, and one of its employees were named in an eight-count sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former employee Reba Kay Siers.



Dewayne Clark was selected as the chairman of the 1994 Destin Fishing Rodeo and two new directors were Royal Melvin and Dale Peterson, chairman of the 1993 rodeo.



An overwhelming number of Destin residents do not want the city to consider creating its own police force, according to a Log telephone poll.



Winner of the People’s Choice award at the fifth annual Great Southern Gumbo Cook-Off was Sunset Bay Cafe & Grille. Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club Executive Chef Justin Gaffrey’s gumbo received the Critics Choice award.

A portion of the 13 acres Destin matriarch Mattie Kelly called home and willed to Okaloosa-Walton Community College will be sold to a developer.



Six hundred months, 50 years, of marriage was celebrated by Arline and Al Stiller of Destin.



Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast opened its Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitative Unit.
