The Destin Marlins turned up the heat on the Meigs Wildcats for a 33-7 win in middle school girls' basketball action Monday evening in Destin.
"We came out in the third and decided to press and it worked well," said Destin Coach Ben Kackley. "We were able to get some quick steals and made some shots."
At the half, Destin held a 10-7 lead, but then they turned up the pressure cooker and shut Meigs down.
In the third quarter, Destin dumped in 15 points with Brooke Manis leading the way with five points. Auriane Rawls and Macklyn Keeley each scored four.
Destin continued to apply the press and shutout Meigs in the fourth, while putting up eight points of their own.
"The girls were going aggressive to the basket and you can't ask for more than that," Kackley said.
Rawls was tops for Destin with 14 points, while Manis hit for seven.
With the win the Marlins move to 2-5 on the season and will host the Bruner Spartans at 5 p.m. Thursday.
"We're ready for a challenge. It should be a great game on Thursday," Kackley said.
