Lenore Nixon, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Destin Jan. 23, 2014. Born Aug. 2, 1936, in Farmington, Mich., to Leo and Lenore Bruder Gildemeister, Lenore graduated from Farmington High School and earned her B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from Central Michigan University. She taught English and French in the Bay City Public School System for 23 years.
Lenore was active in community and high school theatre and acted, played piano, and directed several productions over the years. She enjoyed international travel, cooking, tennis, and golf.
Lenore retired to Destin in 1999 and pursued many activities, including book club, writers groups and bridge clubs. She played piano at Santa Rosa Beach Club and Inn at Crystal Beach’s 790 Restaurant. Lenore served as president and secretary of the Women’s Association at Santa Rosa Beach Club and arranged many memorable musical performances there and at her home.
Lenore is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Dr. Terry Holmes of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; son, Jason Dean of Los Angeles, Calif.; and grandchildren, Hillary and Harrison Holmes and Veronica Dean.
A memorial celebration is being planned. Memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 220 Eglin Parkway NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547.
