Best of the Emerald Coast
SANDESTIN – The 2012 winners voted The Best by readers of Emerald Coast Magazine will be on display from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 13 at Grand Boulevard along the main street. The evening includes food, fun, fashion and entertainment, silent auction, and live music.
Admission is $25/advance and $35/day of. All proceeds benefit the Junior League of the Emerald Coast. Destin Beer Festival
DESTIN –The newly branded Destin Beer Festival will be held from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 13 and will feature an afternoon of specialty brews, eclectic cuisine, and live entertainment along the main street of Destin Commons. The event will also offer a VIP Tent in Center Plaza and a merchandise booth. The event will benefit The Children’s Neighborhood of Children in Crisis, Inc. Independent film series
DESTIN – The Friends Guild of the Destin Library presents an independent and foreign film at 7 p.m. Oct. 16. The program is free and open to the public. Films are unrated and directed toward mature audiences. Seating will be limited to 60 on a first come, first served basis.

Window Gallery Display
FORT WALTON BEACH – To showcase the work of local artists, the Arts and Design Society presents exhibits in their studio windows facing First Street. In October, the work of Penny MacPherson, sculptor and painter in oils, will be on display. Call 244-1271.
FORT WALTON BEACH – The Arts and Design Society, 17 First St., offers Palm Tree and Beach (Acrylics), a one-day acrylics class, the subject of which will be the Beach and Palm Trees, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18. Cost is $150/members and $165/non-members. Call 244-1271.
NICEVILLE – The Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts Division of Northwest Florida State College will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play “Proof” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17-20 in the Sprint Theater of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. SANDESTIN – Marlin Grill at Baytowne Wharf hosts the Third Annual Beer From Around Here featuring barbeque by Jim ‘N Nick’s, beer pairings from local breweries and live music on the lawn from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 19 to kick off The Village of Baytowne Wharf’s Beer Festival. Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival
SANDESTIN – Known as the “Best Beer Fest on the Emerald Coast,” the Fifth Annual Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival from 2-6 p.m. Oct. 19-20 features 40 on-site craft brewers, more than 100 domestic and international beers, seminars and samplings and live music. FORT WALTON BEACH – Dog Daze 2012, the community’s annual celebration of dogs and the families who love them, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at Liza Jackson Park, 318 Miracle Strip Parkway. New attractions include the Soccer Collies from Ocala. Local kids’ soccer teams (12 and under) are invited to go head to head (or toe to paw) with these talented soccer dogs. Kids play the goalkeeper position.
Other attraction include the Pensacola Furricanes, fun games, contests, dog-centered vendors, adoptable pets, and dachshund races, along with a pet parade with a Halloween theme.
All well-behaved dogs more than six months old are welcome with proof of vaccinations. There's no charge for people to attend, but a donation of $3 per dog is requested, with part of the proceeds going to a suitable worthy cause. Rain date Nov. 3 at The Landing.
