For the second year in a row, South Walton High School’s Dr. Cheryl Mixson and her math students finished first in their division at the Northwest Florida State College Math Bowl. Teams from 21 Northwest Florida high schools competed in the 27th annual Math Bowl at Northwest Florida State College March 7 at the college’s Niceville campus.
After a day-long competition of written exams, ciphering matches and math problems, an awards ceremony was held for the day’s winners.
Individual winners in Class X were first place, Riley Davis (Freeport); second place, Cody Pickren (South Walton); third place, Megan Hubbard (Port St. Joe); fourth and fifth place (tied), Lindsay Furr (Port St. Joe) and Luke Bauer (South Walton).
School winners in Class X were first place, South Walton; second place, Freeport; and third place, Baker.
In addition to trophies for individual and school winners, the highest scoring student in each class received a cash award of $50 and the overall highest in all categories received an additional $50.
