Under sunny skies, with a north wind, the water is flat at the Okaloosa Island Pier Tuesday morning. In the last few days anglers have been catching sheepshead and a few Spanish mackerel. Pompano are showing up in the surf. Try shrimp or sand fleas for bait. The first cobia of the season was caught off the beach near Sandpiper Cove on Friday by Dennis Bennet using a cobia jig.
Reports of redfish, sheepshead and trout are coming in from those fishing in the bay and around the bridges. Try fiddler crabs or live shrimp to lure in those redfish and sheepshead. Speckled trout are biting around the docks at night on live shrimp.
Amberjack are biting well near the south edge. Mingo, white snapper, triggerfish and red snapper are biting good on cut squid and Boston mackerel on the natural bottom. Offshore near the rigs, anglers are hooking up with a few yellowfin tuna and occasional swordfish.
