Under overcast skies and a light drizzle, the water is clean and calm at the Okaloosa Island Pier. Anglers on Tuesday morning were already catching whiting. Other fish caught in the last couple of days include Spanish mackerel, bluefish, flounder and red fish.
The flounder are here and can be found on the inshore wrecks within three miles of the beach. The best bait is bull minnows or baby cigar minnows. Anglers are catching redfish off the beach, trolling stretch Rappalla’s, according to Pete Wright at Ships Chandler. Speckled trout can found at the mouth of the rivers and up in the rivers in the deep holes. Try bouncing a soft plastic off the bottom. And the colder it gets, the better the bite will be.
There are still a few king mackerel out there to be had and the trick to snagging one is fly lining. Blackfin tuna are still biting well in close. Bottom fishing is good for a catch of mingo, red grouper and amberjack.
