E. W. "Tex" Ritter



E. W. "Tex" Ritter of Destin, Fla. passed away on Dec. 18, 2012, in Niceville, Fla. He was born on Aug. 5, 1922, in Amory, Miss.



He was a former railroad executive at St. Louis San Francisco Railroad (Frisco) and Burlington Northern, Inc.



Mr. Ritter finished high school at Amory High School in 1940 and joined the Frisco railroad in 1940. He stayed with the Frisco and, subsequently, Burlington Northern railroad (result of merger) until 1985, except for 39 months with the Army Air Corp during World War II.



He and his wife, the former Evelyn Roberts of Nashville, Tenn., moved to Niceville in 1985 and resided in Bluewater Bay until 2010 when they moved to Kelly Plantation in Destin.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Era Halon and Dewdrop Lewis Ritter of Amory. He was also preceded by his only granddaughter who passed away when she was 12 years old. Her name was Katherine (Katie) Marie Ritter.



He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Evelyn; sons, Rick (wife, Alice, and three grandsons, Kevin, Bryan and Justin) and Randy (wife, Cindy, and one grandson, Stephen); sister, Oleta Webb, Tupelo, Miss.; and brothers, Hershel (wife, Mae, of Memphis, Tenn.) and Harold (wife, Shirley, of Wilmington, Del.)



There will be a time of visitation held from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 2 at Niceville United Methodist Church with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Edward (Ed) Chandler officiating.



Refreshments will follow the service at the church beginning at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Niceville United Methodist Church.



Heritage Gardens Funeral Home of Niceville is entrusted with the arrangements.



Jerry L. Voss



Jerry L. Voss, 63, of Destin, Fla., (formerly of Blue Springs, Mo.) passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 26, 2012.



Born July 13, 1949, to Glenn and Charlotte Voss in St. Louis, Mo. Jerry received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Missouri State University in Education. He was a dedicated educator with Lee's Summit High School for 33 years, retiring in 2004. Jerry served as president of MSTA from 2001 to 2002.



After retiring to Florida, Jerry continued his dedication to education by substitute teaching at Fort Walton Beach High School. He was a loving husband and father, and proud grandfather.



Jerry loved the beach and was passionate about beach restoration in Destin and proudly served on the Board of Directors for Sandpiper Cove.



Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Seth William.



Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Kathryn (Katie); daughter, Vanessa (Jeff) Colvin; brother, Robin (Lisa) Voss; granddaughter, Maggie; nephew, Alan Voss and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.



Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Jan. 2 at White Chapel Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
