Emerald Coast resident Angie Onianwa has taken the phrase tickled pink to a whole new level.
For 18 years the independent Mary Kay sales director has been hosting the "Feel the Power" retreat with sales associates coming from all over the country — and beyond, to take part in the event.
The first year Onianwa hosted the pink-palooza almost 20 years ago, the turnout was good.
"We had 10 rooms reserved for the weekend, and 40 people came," said Onianwa. "This year we had 500 rooms, and 900 guests."
Held annually during the first weekend of February, this year's event was held from Feb. 1 to 3 at the Grand Sandestin.
Onianwa told The Log that they have moved the retreat once or twice, but they always go back to The Grand for their host site.
"We've outgrown everywhere else," joked Onianwa.
The three-day retreat offers banquets, workshops, guest speakers, a fun run and even an award ceremony, among other things for guests to enjoy.
"A lot of the Mary Kay representatives come because of the networking," said Onianwa. "They get training from some of the top people in the business. It's up close and personal and they might not otherwise get that."
Onianwa said another reason the retreat is held in Destin is obvious — "it's beautiful."
Although Mary Kay has been sold by women more often than men in the past, men are more than welcome to attend — and they do, according to Onianwa.
"We even offer workshops geared toward the men," she said.
With so many people "coming in and out," of the business, Onianwa said she sees a nice mixture of new and old faces at every year's retreat.
