"…and a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, when she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.... And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague." (Mark 5:25-27, 34)
Have you ever had an unpleasant issue to deal with? Have you tried everything within your ability to correct that issue and it never seems to be resolved? Have you ever exhausted all of your resources whether they are physical, financial, emotional or spiritual? Have you ever felt like there is nothing else you can try to do to fix the issue?
Before the application of the scripture quoted above there is a confession I must first make publicly. Understand that I know this normally goes against an unwritten “man-code.” I HAVE READ DIRECTIONS when putting something together. There came a point when I had exhausted all I could on assembling the equipment. When my own knowledge and ability failed me I had to rely on a document that was created by the company or individual that created the product.
To apply this to the scripture above, we can look at our life as the equipment assembly and the Bible as the instruction manual. God made you and me. There is no issue or problem that takes God by surprise and there is no issue or problem He cannot fix.
In our Bible passage there was a woman who had a specific need concerning her health. She had been fighting the issue for 12 years. What is that issue with which you are battling? How long have you dealt with your situation?
First, notice the state of the woman mentioned in our passage. The scripture says she had "spent all she had." She was financially broke. No doubt she was physically broke as well. Her energy had been depleted dealing with this issue for 12 years. Also, I am sure it was emotionally draining spending all the money, time and energy she had. The scripture says that after all the woman had done, she was not seeing any improvement; instead she was worse. However, there was one source of Hope she had heard of in her life — Jesus.
Second, she was willing to humble herself and press through the crowd without care of what others thought about her urgent efforts. All she knew is that she must get to Jesus.
Third, when she reached out and touched Jesus, she was hoping to be healed from the issue of blood. However, she received not only the physical healing she had so longed for, but she received a much greater, unforeseen benefit from The Lord. She received peace.
It has been said that when He is all you have, you realize that He is all you need. The Creator knows your situation and your need. If you and I will have a little hope and simple faith to trust His directions, we can enjoy his peace in our lives.
