Coffee House Live
Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Emerald Coast in Valparaiso, Coffee House Live is being paired for the first time with Art Live, showcasing the work of local artists of all kinds, from photography to sculpture. The event has been rescheduled at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 in the Fellowship Hall.
Featured artists will be guitarist Dave Abraham and “Dr. Jazz,” Janine Normand, on piano.

Call to artists: Destin Festival of the Arts
The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation will present the 13th annual Destin Festival of the Arts on Oct. 25 and 26 at Henderson Beach State Park featuring over 100 premie artists from the United States.
Applications are now being accepted for the Collaborative Exhibit which features community adults to display or sell up to three pieces of their art shared by participating artists. Artwork should be of an artistic caliber associated with a juried fine art show. Judges will award cash prizes to artists in four categories.
The competition is open to the first 20 applicants and the entry fee is $35. Deadline is Sept. 12.

Documentary premier
The documentary film “Niceville: A Fish Tale,” created by Stray Dog Films of Nashville using material from the Heritage Museum archives and collections, will premier at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at The Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College.
Donations at the door will benefit the museum and its preservation efforts.

Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra 2008-2009 season
The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra at Okaloosa-Walton College, under the baton of Jeffrey Rink, announces its 2008-09 concert season.
•Sept. 27: “Good as Gold” featuring Janice Ingrid Fehlauer, 2007 Wideman Piano Competition Gold Medal winner.
•Nov. 1: “A Night at the Opera” featuring the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorus.
•Dec. 12: “Christmas Pops” with the Northwest Symphony Chorus.
•Jan. 30: “Symphonic Miniatures” with the Chamber Orchestra featuring Northwest Florida State College dance students.
•Feb. 20: “Stars of Tomorrow” featuring the winners of the 22nd annual Concerto Competition.
•March 14: Special event, NFSO Goes Pops, with performer Della Reese, will be a fund-raiser to benefit the symphony’s year-round programs and will include opportunity to purchase front row seats and attend a post concert reception with Reese.
•May 9: “The Creation” featuring the Tokyo Oratorio Society in performance with the NFSO and the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorus, along with guest soloists Jane Redding, Adam Kirkpatrick, and Robert Honeysucker.
Season tickets for a series of six NFSO concerts are available for $120. Tickets for the fund-raiser “NFSO Goes Pops” event with Della Reese are $45 each, with a special section of limited front-row seats available for $100 each which include post-concert reception.

Origami workshops
The University of West Florida Japan Center will offer origami workshops from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and 25, Nov. 8 and 22 and Dec. 6 and 20 on Saturdays, Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and 25, Nov. 8 and 22, and Dec. 6 and 20 in Bldg. 71, Room 141. Art A La Carte
Art A La Carte, Artel Gallery’s  wearable art fashion show and luncheon, will take place Sept. 29 at  Varona’s Restaurant in Pensacola. Guests will enjoy  festive foods and creative fashions in a colorful setting. Silent auction items, door prizes and give-aways will be awarded.

Mandala Sand Painting
Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a Mandala Sand Painting Oct. 14 to 18 in the McIlroy Gallery at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the Niceville campus of NWF State College.
Opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 14. The gallery will be open following the opening ceremony until 4 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15-17 for the public to watch the monks create the mandala.
A reception for the exhibit will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17. Special gallery hours on Oct. 18 are 9 a.m. through the closing ceremony at 2 p.m.

Sinfonia Gulf Coast
Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s 2008-09 season begins with Natalie Cole at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Emerald Coast Conference Center in a Gala Season Opening Performance. Separate from the main season, this special presentation will help raise funds for Sinfonia’s educational initiatives and programs throughout the community.

Back to Nature Festival

Northwest Florida Ballet

The fourth annual Vettes at the Village will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 in The Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
Guests can vote for their favorites to determine the top three winners of each class. Vettes at the Village also features live entertainment and special giveaways.

Art exhibit: Cardinal Points/Puntos Cardinales
The Pensacola Museum of Art presents “Cardinal Points/Puntos Cardinales: A Survey of Contemporary Latino and Latin American Art from the Sprint Nextel Collection” through Oct. 25.
The PMA is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. Admission is $5/adults and $2/students and active duty military.

Pioneer Day
Pioneer Day at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in Niceville will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1.
Family activities will include candle-dipping, rag doll making, weaving and campfire cooking demonstrations. Other special activities include live dulcimer and flute music, quilting, storytelling and more. The main feature is the restored late 1800’s chuck wagon. There will be at least 15 exhibitors, many with hands-on activities.
Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnics to enjoy beside the bayou.

Art exhibit: Faces and Stories: A Portrait of Southern Writers
The Pensacola Museum of Art has announced the exhibition “Faces and Stories: A Portrait of Southern Writers” will be on view in the Lewis Bear Family Galleries through Nov. 1.

Choral Society of Pensacola
 The Choral Society of Pensacola will perform has scheduled the following concerts beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tradewinds Wine Tasting
The annual Tradewinds Wine Tasting to benefit the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 2. Enjoy hors d’ouevres, sample wines and receive a museum souvenir. A silent auction will feature fishing trips, weekend get-a-ways, wine, art and more.

Emerald Coast Concert Association

Mattie Kelly Arts Center
The Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville 12th season of Broadway’s best touring shows for 2008-2009 will appear in the main stage theater at the arts complex.

The 2008-2009 Broadway package includes:
•Dec. 4: Nunsense, a musical comedy,  with this special national tour starring two-time Emmy Award winner, Sally Struthers. Individual tickets are $45.
•Jan. 12: The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a Tony-Award winning new musical comedy, has some mature themes. Individual tickets are $45.
•Jan. 21: The Drowsy Chaperone, a new musical comedy. Individual tickets  are $45.
•March 11: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a musical comedy that follows two con artists as they take on the lifestyles of the rich and shameless. Individual tickets are $45.
The 2008-09 OWC Mattie Kelly Arts Center Artist Series includes four shows that may be purchased in a 7-show Broadway/Artist combo package for $225 or for individual ticket prices that vary by show.
The Artist Series shows included in the package are:
•Nov. 8: Jungua — Descendents of the Dragon, features skills of China’s  acrobats and martial arts masters. Individual tickets are $25.
•Feb. 7:  American Spiritual Ensemble, a repertoire of classic spirituals, jazz, Broadway numbers and more that highlight the black experience. Individual tickets are $25.
•Feb. 23: Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Chicago’s leading contemporary dance company celebrates 30 years. Individual tickets  are $25.
Two special Family Event shows will also be featured this season. The shows are not included in the Broadway Season package and tickets must be purchased separately.
Family Events this season include:
•Dec. 16-17: Oliver, one of the best-loved family musicals of all time. Individual tickets are $40/adults and $30/youth 18 and under.
•March 21: Moscow Cats Theatre, with 35 cats, one dog and 5 clowns,  balancing acts, cat dancing, acrobatics and barrels of laughs. Tickets are $20/adults and $15/youth 18 and under.

Raider’s of the Lost Art fall concert
The Northwest Florida State College jazz ensemble, Raider’s of the Lost Art, presents its fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College, Niceville, Mainstage. Free and open to the public.

Madrigal Singers concert
The Madrigal Singers and Bella Voci Christmas concert features gourmet dessert and holiday musical fare at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College, Niceville, Tyler Recital Hall. Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra

Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra
The Northwest Florida Symphony Chorus joins the orchestra to perform popular holiday fare for this concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College, Niceville, Mainstage.
