Snowbird coffees
Southern Resorts Vacation Rentals will hold morning coffees with doughnuts for their “Southern Snowbirds” at 8 a.m. beginning Jan. 5 and continuing through February.
Coffees are scheduled Mondays in Panama City Beach, Tuesdays in Fort Walton Beach, Wednesdays in Destin and Thursdays in Port St. Joe.

Center for Lifelong Learning
Registration for the Center for Lifelong Learning classes will be held Jan. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. for returning students and 1 to 2 p.m. for new students at the UWF/NWFSC Campus in Fort Walton Beach in the auditorium.
Late registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 12-14 in the administrative office, Bldg. 1.

Boating seminars
Seminars, sponsored by UWF and the Fort Walton Sail and Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, include Boating Security on Jan. 12 and Boat Handling Under Power Jan. 26. Seminars begin at 7 p.m. at the University of West Florida Coombs Campus on Lovejoy Road in Fort Walton Beach and last two hours.

Zen priest to speak
“How to Taste a Strawberry When a Tiger Is Chasing You” is the title of a talk to be given by The Rev. Teijo Munnich of Asheville, N.C., at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Coastal Branch Library in south Walton County.

Legislative Forum

Heartfelt Walkabout
Join Sacred Heart Foundation for a “Heartfelt Walkabout” from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Magnolia Ballroom at the Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Guests will enjoy signature dishes from area restaurants, wine tastings, live entertainment, and silent and live auctions. All proceeds from the event will benefit Sacred Heart Foundation’s capital campaign to raise $5 million for the expansion of heart and vascular services at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.
Tickets are $99 per person and may be purchased at Kitchenique in The Market Shops at Sandestin, Burnt Pine Golf Club, and Sacred Heart Foundation.
Walton County Master Gardener course
Applications are being accepted for the new Master Gardener class to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Thursday Feb. 5 through April 23 at the Walton County Extension Office, 732 N. 9th Street in DeFuniak Springs.
Space is limited. A charge of $95 covers books and other supplies. In addition to classroom work, students are expected to participate in community volunteer projects.

Cox Cablethon
The 37th annual Cox Communications Cablethon benefiting Covenant Hospice will be held Feb. 27-28 on Channel 6.
The Cablethon may also be viewed globally this year via the Internet so providing sponsors even more value for their sponsorships. All of the money raised from the Cablethon goes toward unfunded programs in Okaloosa and Walton Counties such as indigent care, bereavement and children’s programs.
