Destin panhandler barters beer for trash duty
DESTIN - A panhandling suspect was arrested at a gas station after a clerk there said he scared her when she wouldn't give him a beer for taking out the trash.
The 43-year-old man is charged with trespassing.
He was outside the Fill-Ups Food Store at 201 U.S. Highway 98 asking customers for money, according to his arrest report. Later, he came inside and said he would take out the trash in exchange for a beer. He claimed to be an alcoholic, according to the report.
When the employee said she couldn't help him, he put his fist on the counter and said he wouldn't hurt her, but he needed a beer, a deputy wrote.
He had been issued a previous trespass warning for the store but said he didn't know about it.
