Boy in stolen boat: I just didn’t want to walk home

DESTIN - A boy who left in another man's boat said he did it so he wouldn't have to walk home, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

The engine stalled, and the 15-year-old Destin boy faces felony theft charges.

He was trying to cross the Destin Harbor on Monday at about 5 a.m., according to his arrest report. The boat's owner had confronted him just before he started the engine and headed out.

When it stalled, the owner overtook him in another boat and detained him for deputies.

"I just didn't want to walk 8 to 10 miles home," the boy said, according to his report.

The boat was valued at $4,000.
