What $8 buys in the Destin Snowbird Club

It’s official! The ribboncutting ceremony at the Roost in the Destin Community Center was held on Dec. 1, marking the start of another Snowbird season. There were hugs, handshakes, and lots of laughter while standing in line to pay our $8 membership fee for the upcoming year.

Of course, there is always one person standing near me who asks the question, “What do I get for my $8?” I tell them that for starters $8 buys excellent entertainment weekly, local performers like Jabbo & Friends, Soundsations, David Seering and many more.

Door prizes from local vendors are also given out at each meeting. There are sign-up sheets for golf, fashion shows, concerts and other events to get connected (just think of the time and gas saved by attending these meetings). Then there are we volunteers who donate our time to the Snowbirds.I know that these Snowbird friends are one of the reasons I joined this club. They are always as happy to see me as I am to see them.

This week, check out our new Web site at www.DestinSnowbirds. org. There are many upcoming activities and events to check out. Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. is registration. Club meeting follows at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 is the Christmas Parade. Meet us at Old Time Pottery at 9:30 a.m Call Ford Sims for further info at 850-654-7138. Weigh in on nude dancing in Destin
Should the city have settled with The Oasis?
No. Under no circumstances should a strip club be allowed to open in Destin.
No. I think the city could have negotiated better terms.
Yes. I don't want nude dancing in Destin, but the city can't legally ban strip clubs.
Yes. Bring on the half-naked women!
I don't care. A strip club won't last long in Destin.
