Herbert Ryan “Herb” Gause
Mr. Herbert Ryan “Herb” Gause, 74, died Aug. 23, 2010, at Sacred Heart Health System, Pensacola, Fla., after a brief illness.
Mr. Gause was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Scranton, SC, a son of the late John Flemming “Bub” Gause and Tula Collins Gause. Ryan grew up on the farm in the Camp Branch Community along with his five brothers and four sisters. At the age of 18, he joined the US Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and was later stationed in Europe. He received numerous medals for his service and retired after 20 years of service as a Staff Sgt.
After retiring from service, he was a building contractor and later retired from Elgin Federal Credit Union. He continued his hobby as a master woodworker and furniture maker, creating more than 200 rocking chairs, all of which he gave to his friends and family. Ryan was known for his great sense of humor and will be missed by everyone.
Surviving are his children Shane Michael Gause and Ryan Jason Gause of Destin and Julia Kay Smith of Niceville; grandchildren, Steve and Samantha Smith and Ryan Sage Gause; four great-grandchildren; brothers, John F. “Junior” Gause of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Franklin Guy Gause of DuPo, Ill.; sister, Jewell G. Hoefer of Columbia, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Vincent Gause, Stanton Y. Gause, Sr. and Collins Gause, and three sisters, Avis Wallace, Claire Gennaro and Bleecker Godwin.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 27 at Carolina Funeral Home, 215 E. Hwy. 378 ByPass in Scranton, SC, and at other times at the home of Dan Gause, 905 W. Camp Branch Road in Scranton.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel in Scranton. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Lake City Memorial Park.

Charles Allan Tucker
Charles Allan Tucker, 41, of Shalimar, Fla., passed away Aug. 22, 2010.
Charles is survived by his mother, Doris McClenathan (John) of Ohio, and father, Earl Tucker (Gaye) of Shalimar; brother, Steve Tucker of Destin, Fla.; stepbrother, Russell Carroll of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and niece, Chelsea Whitney (Travis) of Virginia.
Charles was a very loving and kind man who never met a stranger. Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Aug 26. A time of visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E. in Fort Walton Beach.
