Destin Man Destroys Fishing Boat with Molatav Cocktail
A Destin man was arrested early Saturday morning on multiple charges of arson, burglary, possessing and throwing a destructive device, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, after he admitted torching the Southern Belle fishing boat as it was docked in the Destin harbor behind Marabella Condos.
The Southern Belle was destroyed in the blaze and a Destin firefighter suffered minor injuries while trying to put out the fire. Two nearby boats were heavily damaged.
Mark Adam Salli, 32, of Destin, a deckhand on the Southern Belle, says he did it because the fishing captain owed him pay, according to a release from the OCSO.
The report says Salli poured gasoline all over the boat, including in the cabin, then lit a rag attached to a Gatorade bottle filled with gas and threw it into the cabin, which instantly exploded.
The fire took place around 10:45 p.m. Friday. Salli's mother brought him to the OCSO Destin District Office around 2 a.m. Saturday, where he admitted he had "blown up a boat," the report said.
