WHERE WONDERS NEVER CEASE: Welcome to the Destin History Project

In conjunction with our 2008 and 2009 Progress Edition, The Log is opening its archives and launching the Destin History Project, a Web site with a mission to preserve the rich history of the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.

It is a work in progress, so we will be continually updating it and adding stories. We will inform readers of new additions weekly in the paper.

But chronicling a city like Destin is no small job, so we need your help.

As you read the stories in our archives pay attention to the photos. In many of them we are asking for more information about the image. Post a comment on the story if you can fill in the blanks of what we are looking at and who is in the photo. Also, feel free to leave a comment telling us about your part in the history of any of the stories we have written about.

Also, we know there are more than 14 Ancient and Modern Wonders in Destin, so tell us what we missed.

Want to chronicle the days when it was OK to ski down sand dunes? Have a great photo of you lying in the middle of Highway 98 without a car in sight? Share them with us and your neighbors.

Contribute your photos and living histories online at thedestinlog.com/history. Just click on the share your stories button and follow the instructions.

If the only Net you are savvy with is a fishing net, than write up a historical piece and bring your photos to our office at 1225 Airport Road.

Enjoy, and e-mail editor William Hatfield with any comments and suggestions at williamh@link.freedom.com.
