‘The Roost' to open Nov. 12

The Destin Snowbirds have come back to roost. Their winter home, The Roost, will open at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Destin Community Center with membership registration until noon. All the Snowbirds in town plus the officers and Destin city officials will be present. Everything starts with the opening ribbon cutting, so pick up your activity sheet and follow the crowd. Registration will also be held on Nov. 17 and 24 at 1 p.m.
Activities for the Destin Snowbird Club, which usually has more than 2,000 members, include social events such as dances, parties, cards, craft shows, Friendship Club and casino trips. Sports include fishing, golf, tennis and bowling, and many activities pertaining to our well-being.
The Snowbirds meet weekly. There will be articles and information in this paper about activities and the calendar of events.
Upcoming events include:
•Dec. 2: General meeting, 10 a.m., with entertainment by Kim Cannon.
•Dec. 3: Golf sign up at Kelly Plantation at 10 a.m.
•Dec. 9: Past Presidents Dinner, 5 p.m.
•Dec. 9: General meeting, 10 a.m., with entertainment by the Fort Walton Beach High School Jazz Band.
•Dec. 12: Christmas Party, 5 p.m. at the Destin American Legion.
•Dec. 13:    Christmas Parade, 10 a.m.
•Dec. 14:    Christmas Boat Parade, 6 p.m. with party following.
•Dec. 15: Kelly Plantation Golf Tournament, 10 a.m.
•Dec. 16: General meeting, 10 a.m. with Three’s Company Craft Show at 9 a.m.
Check at the meetings for fishing dates.
Tuesdays, bridge and euchre will be played at 7 p.m. Thursdays, pinoche at 2 p.m. The Friendship Club meets every Tuesday.
