Elvis hasn’t left the building: King rocks the docks

Fish Flash

If Elvis was the “King” and we know he was — there were a bunch of Elvis impersonators on the docks Wednesday afternoon.
The king showed up in a big way — the king mackerel that is.
Anglers on the Daybreak with Capt. Eric Thrasher and mate Mic Parker brought in a huge haul of king mackerel. They had 10 king on the racks, six that weighed 35 pounds or better. They also had a huge wahoo, along with several red snapper and a grouper.
The Lucky Lina with Capt. Stephen Lathi pulled in a few minutes later with a group from Memphis, Tenn. As a matter of fact, one of the guys on the boat said, “I saw Elvis this morning.”
I’m not sure if he was talking about the couple of kings they had on the rack or the rock-n-roll legend. Either way they had red snapper, triggerfish, mingo and the kings.
Anglers from Ohio and Indiana hauled in 16 king mackerel on the Strike Zone with Capt. Pat Atkins. A couple of their kings lost their tails to some hungry barracuda. They also had a nice catch of red snapper.
The Megabite with Capt. Bobby Taylor at the helm came in with a couple of Elvis impersonators. They also had red snapper, black snapper, lane snapper, triggerfish and a Spanish mackerel.
Anglers on the Blue Runner II with Capt. Tommy Carter brought in a nice catch of red grouper, red snapper, rock salmon, mackerel and barracuda.
Capt. Chuck Turbanic on the No Alibi had four kings on the racks along with a limit of red snapper and white snapper.
Anglers on the Sunrise with Capt. Kelly Windes brought in a grouper, six scamp and several red snapper.
Capt. David Jones on the Sarge had a nice haul of red snapper and king mackerel.
The Glory came in with a good catch of red snapper, black snapper and grouper.
Anglers on the Tropical Winds with Capt. Tommy Klosterman loaded the racks with red snapper, a couple of scamp, mingo and red grouper.
The party boat Sweet Jody with Capt. Cliff Cox brought in several red snapper, white snapper, lane snapper, triggerfish, mingo and even a grouper or two.
The group aboard the Hired Gun with Capt. Bill Waitzman reeled in a big catch of king mackerel, red snapper, grouper, scamp and triggerfish.
The Backdown 2 with Capt. Gary Jarvis had some big impersonators on the board. In addition to the king mackerel, the anglers from Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama reeled in several red snapper and a few red grouper.
I know there are “Suspicious Minds” but fishing is good, so come on down and catch the “Fever.” When you hook up with a king there could be a “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin On” but “Don’t Be Cruel” or try to “Return to Sender” just “Love Me Tender.”
See you at the docks.
