OCSO Sgt. faces DUI charge
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested an agency Sergeant Thursday night in Destin on a charge of driving under the influence.
Deputies were called to an area of Highway 98 near 314 Harbor Blvd. shortly before 10 p.m. Feb. 2 in response to a motorcycle crash.
Deputies say citizens reported finding 48-year-old Sgt. Ted
Cason lying on the ground near the motorcycle. He had blood on his forehead, but despite an apparent head injury, declined medical attention. He also refused a Field Sobriety Test or alcohol breath test.
A sergeant on the scene noted that Cason had a moderate smell of alcohol coming from his breath, his eyes appeared watery, and he was unsteady on his feet.
He was charged with driving under the influence and has been suspended without pay pending the results of an internal investigation.
