Get fired up for fire prevention

Destin Fire District now conducting Fire Safety contest

The heat is on as summer draws closer. The kids will soon be left alone more and fireworks will be in young hands.

In preparation for the upcoming Family Fire Drill on Sunday, May 18, the Destin Fire District is promoting fire safety awareness for families with a contest.

Children up to 8th grade level are invited to enter posters up to 11x17 in size, 3D art and catchy slogans, rhymes, cheers and chants that promote fire safety.

All entries can be delivered to the Destin Community Center up until Friday, May 23.

All entries must have the name, phone number and age of the child on the back of the entry. This is the only way to ensure registration for the contest and delivery of prizes.

Prizes? That’s right! All entrants will receive free passes to The Track, Destin Cinema 10 and Chick-fil-A.

Trophies will be awarded to the 1st place winners for each category in each age group. Entries will be divided into three age groups- up to 2nd grade, 3-5 grade and 6-8 grade.

All entries will be displayed at the Community Center and the winners will be announced on May 28.

The Destin Fire Dept. is also circulating surveys to help define the focus for families and the fire departments for Fire Prevention Month in October.

After completing the drill, participants should fill out a survey and return it to their nearest Destin Fire Dept.

All completed surveys will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a ride on a fire truck for the entire family!

More information about the Family Fire Drill will be available closer to May 18.

For more information about the contest, contact Ann Hadsall-Allen at 269-0831 or Chief Sasser at 837-8413.
