Snowbirds prepare to 'fly' back home

Time sure flies when we're having fun. At least it does if you're a Destin Snowbird. Many are starting to pack and get ready to migrate north while the winter weather just seems to keep challenging everyone. We wish all a safe trip home. Last Tuesday’s meetings featured entertainment by Niceville High School Opus I, a real treat. This group of students played 31 concerts during the holiday season alone. They are very polished, singing music that included “Sounds of Silence”, “Pick Yourself Up” and “Isn't it Romantic?” Thank you, Opus I.

With many of our Snowbirds leaving, we will have only one meeting on Tuesday, March 2 starting at 10 a.m. Don't forget. All of our past meetings have been very well attended, with 700-800 Snowbirds at each meeting. We would like to thank our Destin Snowbird sponsors for the current 2009-2010 season. That's all 176 of you!

We wanted to give credit to these sponsors by naming some each week in this column in order to recognize them all by the end of the season. But since newspaper space is at a premium, we were unable to list them individually and for this we are sorry. However, the sponsor list will be posted on our Web site www.destinsnowbirds.org. We owe each of you a debt of gratitude for your support.

The Friendship Club will meet on Tuesday, March 2 at Callahan's immediately following the Snowbird general meeting. This club will meet on March 9 at O'Quigley's.

We still have several golf play dates for our members at area courses. See our Web site for the dates and participating golf courses. Please remember these courses designate the days we can play at the reduced rates.

All storage locker space has now been filled. If you have any items that you are unable to take back with you, please donate them to one of our local charitable organizations including Harvest House in Destin, 837-2277, or Caring and Sharing of South Walton, 267-2866.
