“Fashionably yours”
What immediately comes to my mind is chocolate, since I am somewhat of a chocoholic. In this case, “sweet” has nothing to do with any luscious edible.
“Sweet” is the latest “in” word that kids use. Remember when everything “sweet,” from clothing to cars to music, was cool, hot, dope, sick, smokin’ and radical.
Well, sweet is in, but it was years ago when Jackie Gleason said, “how sweeeeeeet it is!” As I often say, what is old becomes new. Heaven help us if “swell” makes a comeback.
Moving right along. This is not an English lesson. It all leads to fashion’s “sweet” new color: yellow.
Spring/summer will have us all looking like “Big Bird” if we are not careful. I personally like the color but not to the point of looking like a lemon. That would be “sour.”
So how does one navigate this current designers’ fascination with Crayola Crayons’ hot color, yellow? For sure, not to be worn head to toe! Even eye make-up and nail polish is out in bright yellow.
First of all, very few people can wear the color well, so think accessories. My husband, whom I consider to be a suave and selective dresser, liked to add a yellow tie to a sport coat or suit and a pocket square for flair. At one point, it was considered to be a power color for men. Women, however, can sometimes go over the top putting their ensembles together.
After all, it’s so tempting! Handbags, shoes, scarves, jewelry, and belts can lend a helping hand to make a fashion statement.
A few suggestions, if I may: Since we really have a short spring, you might want to opt out of the yellow coat and go with a cardigan sweater paired with a black skirt, dress or slacks.
Now put that yellow bag, large for day and small clutch for evening, together for the complete look. Sweaters can come in handy in restaurants that keep the air conditioning set for polar conditions.
Match the yellow baby doll dress over black lace leggings and go with black accessories for the rest. Beware of pairing the other Crayola primary colors with your yellow dress. It is just too much. Stick with the neutrals like navy, creme and white. Remember that all yellow is not the same. There is buttercup that works well for blondes and redheads. Brunettes can usually carry all of the shades of yellow.
If you dislike the color but still want to feel a touch of the fashion splash, then pair up a strand of yellow glass or amber beads on your favorite outfit or some strappy sandals to put the spotlight on finely manicured toes.
As for me, I possess many of the above-mentioned items. However, my birthday is drawing near and who could say no to a canary yellow diamond. Sweet!
