Report: Man steals phone, grandma threatens to kick him out (MUG)
A 24-year-old Freeport man was arrested Feb. 6 on charges of two counts of larceny.
Donald Hubert Waltman was seen looking suspicious in the electronics department of Destin Walmart on Emerald Coast Parkway, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s report.
Waltman was seen using a razor blade to cut the top hook of a box away from a secured display. He then removed the “Straight Talk” cell phone from the box. The phone is valued at $328.88.
While walking through the store, Waltman pulled off a security monitor. He took the phone to the pet section of the store and put it inside the jacket he was wearing. He then left through the grocery side of the store.
After leaving the store, loss prevention stopped him and found both the phone and the razor blade.
Waltman told deputies he lives with his grandma and had broken her phone earlier in the week. He said she threatened to kick him out if the phone was not replaced, the report said.
